ISLAMABAD (Daily Pakistan Online): Lieutenant General (retd) Ashfaq Nadeem Ahmed has passed away. After the retirement of General Raheel Sharif, his name also came up for the new Army Chief.
According to private TARY News, Lieutenant General (retd) Ashfaq Nadeem Ahmed passed away this morning due to cardiac arrest. He served in the Pakistan Army as Chief of General Staff and DG Military Operations. He was also the Director General of Military Operations and Commander of the Strike Infantry Division.
He led Operation Rah-e-Rast against the terrorists in Swat and also planned Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the tribal areas.
The names of Lt. Gen. Ashfaq Nadeem, Lt. Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, Lt. Gen. Zubair Mehmood Hayat and Lt. Gen. Javed Iqbal Ramday came forward for the new Army Chief on the occasion of the retirement of former Army Chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif. Among them, General Qamar Javed Bajwa became Army Chief and General Zubair Mehmood Hayat became Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee while Ashfaq Nadeem and Javed Iqbal Ramday retired.
