Swat (Daily Pakistan Online) Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the flood affected areas of Swat where he met the people rescued by army helicopters from Kamrat and Kalam. Children, women and elderly people thanked the army chief for the safe evacuation.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), the Chief of Army Staff conducted an aerial survey of the flood situation in Kalam, Bahrain, Khwaja Khila and Matta. He also conducted aerial surveillance of the army troops. General Qamar Javed Bajwa appreciated the work of Corps Commander Peshawar in the rescue activities.

Speaking to reporters at the Kanju cant helipad, the exact extent of the flood damage is yet to be ascertained. The survey will be done jointly by the district administration, tribal governments and the army to assess the damage. He said that in 2010, there was a similar disaster here, negligence was shown by allowing reconstruction in the same places, legal action should be taken against those responsible.

According to the army chief, there has been a lot of damage in Kalam, many hotels and bridges have been destroyed, the most important thing at this time is to open the Kalam road, we hope to open the road in six to seven days. People trapped in Kalam are being evacuated, now there is no crisis situation.

He said that people are getting a good response to the appeal for aid, many tons of rations are being collected, there is no problem of rations, there will be a problem of tents, they are trying to order tents from abroad, on behalf of the army. Tents are also being provided, there is a high need for tents in Sindh and Balochistan. He said that relief goods have started arriving from UAE, Turkey and China. Flights will start coming from Saudi Arabia and Qatar and money will also come. Friendly countries have never left Pakistan alone before and will never leave it now.
